Captain’s Log: Entry

Today Team Surfari Charters packed up and
headed North to Chinandega to start pre-fishing for the
big Flor De Caña International Billfish Tournament. Brodie,
Yader, and I cruised 111 miles in the panga, while Kristin
and Jeff came up in the Hilux by land. The beauty of the
Nicaraguan coast never ceases to amaze me. There are miles
and miles of uninhabited beaches and many with great
surfing potential. Brodie and I even managed to paddle out
at one of these spots and got some great waves. Upon
arrival to Puesta Del Sol Marina, we met up with Kristin
and Jeff and cruised over to Shay Obrien’s place, Hotel
Chancletas. Shay is a great guy and one of Nicaragua’s
surf pioneers. We used to run into him all the time down
south where we live, but 5 years ago he stopped coming
around. Turns out, he found himself a beautiful peace of
paradise, bought some property, and started a surf camp
with his wife and two daughters. This was the first time
that we had seen him since he moved up here, and we
couldn’t have been more stoked to see what a great place
he has built up. We moved into our new home for the next
week (a sweet AC cabina with a view of the great beach
break out back) and got comfortable with some cold beers
and Flor de Caña!
