Team Surfari woke up Thanksgiving morning
and brushed their teeth anxiously waiting to go out on the
Va Pue for their first day of pre-fishing in Chinandega.
We had an awesome breakfast at Hotel Chancletas and then
headed down to Marina Puesta del Sol where the Va Pue was
waiting for us at the docks. We look forward to this trip
every year and this year we were frothing to find some
blue water and big fish. We headed offshore about 36 miles
and were surprised to see that the water stayed pretty
green the whole way. Luckily the wind was mellow and we
were able to find some floating debris and some nice
dolphin. Kristin schooled up the first fish and did a
great job getting it in gaffing range for Jeff to stick
him in the head and nail down our Thanksgiving dinner for
the night! Then Jeff got his shot and dropped back a free
swimming ballyhoo on a circle hook to a hungry bull
dolphin. After a 7 second drop back in free spool, Jeff
slowly brought the drag forward to mechanically bury the
circle hook in the corner of the Dolphin’s mouth. After a
nice fight we had our second bull in the box. Brodie got
the honors of posing for some nice sponsor shots with the
lit up fish. We then landed a few other small dolphin and
decided to head back to the Marina for some cold beers! No
turkey for us, but a great day of fishing with a great
crew!
