Captain’s Log: Entry

Today we headed down to Santana for the
annual surf contest at one of our favorite beach breaks.
We went to help out, judge, and compete. The surf circuit
has grown a lot here in Nicaragua and the level of surfing
has improved greatly over the past few years. The waves
actually cooperated for the event as well (the contest was
postponed from a date two weeks earlier when onshore winds
battered Nicaragua). First off we would like to thank
Ricardo for doing such a great job as contest director, he
busts his butt putting this thing together. The Open
National winner was Luis Chammorro, the Junior National
winner was Rex Calderon, the International winner was none
other than “kingpin” JJ Yemma, and Maite won in the Womens
division. Team Surfari held their own, Kristin got third
place in Womens, I made it to the finals but got fourth,
Gnarley Marley made it through a couple of heats, and grom
“Capullo” made it through a couple of heats as well.
Everyone was charged and already looking forward to the
grand finale contest at Popoyo on the 28th of July.
Special thanks as well to Donald Stone for the surf shots
(make sure to check him out down at Popoyo for all of your
surf photography needs!)
